Gearworks Express

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Gearworks Express hands you a tiny railway and slowly turns it into a headache in the best way. You lay track, split junctions, and try to keep three cargo trains from crashing while they deliver on time. Each level is a self-contained brain teaser, so it's perfect for short sessions.

The offline story here is solid. Everything downloads up front and nothing phones home. We played through a whole batch of levels in the back of a car with dead signal and it never stalled.

It gets tough. Around level thirty you'll be sketching routes in your head at the bus stop. There's an undo button that saves your sanity, and the presentation stays clean even when the maps get busy.
